Georgia State University

The Leading Innovator in the Area of Insurance Economics

Georgia State University’s Risk Management and Insurance program is widely recognized as the leading innovator in the area of insurance economics.

As the largest dedicated academic risk department in the world, GSU’s RMI Department enjoys unmatched recognition as an International Insurance Society Global Center for Insurance Excellence, a top five ranked program by U.S. News & World Report (currently #4 and ranked in the top ten since 1999), and an accredited university risk management program by the Professional Risk Management International Association (PRMIA) since 2011.

Georgia State University is also home to the Center for the Economic Analysis of Risk (CEAR), an internationally recognized organization that conducts and promotes economic research on the measurement and management of risks faced by individual, institutions and societies.

GSU is dedicated to Solomon Huebner’s legacy of creating and fostering a distinct field of risk and insurance. The mission of Georgia State University’s RMI Department is to advance knowledge and educate students in the economics of measuring, managing, and collecting risks faced by individuals and households, in organizations, and society. One of the department’s leading objectives is to place all of its PhD graduates at peer and aspirational universities, in academic risk management programs and in departments of economics and finance. For these reasons, the Huebner Foundation Board of Directors believes that GSU’s Risk Management and Insurance Department is the academic unit best able to execute its mission.

Huebner Alumni

Through its doctoral graduates, the S.S. Huebner Foundation significantly impacts risk and insurance education and the industry.

An estimated one-third of all collegiate insurance education is provided by Huebner alumni, and they instruct and mentor thousands of students worldwide each year.

Our alumni have served within governments as state insurance commissioners and program heads and have played key roles in drafting legislation and testifying before Congress. Their trailblazing research informs important public policy affecting health care financing, insurance guaranty funds and risk-based capital systems, insurance fraud, insurance availability in inner cities, and auto insurance price regulation.

Huebner Fellows have also served as CEO's, senior officers, and program heads of the American College of Financial Services, Certified Employee Benefits Planner, The Institutes, and LOMA.
